ARTIST STATEMENT: This painting marks the return to painting after several years, with a deep dive into quantum science language. "Existing" is my visualization of superposition of life, death, and love. The "Mausoleum Tree", as I gave it it's name months ago, was a magnificent sculpture of a "dead" tree. Yet, for me it was also more than one thing. It was dead, but not dead. Alive not alive. Both and neither. It reminds me of Buddha's Heart Sutra, "Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form." Broad consciousness is a remedy for the wetiko virus: The narrowing of the mind - collapsing the field of potentiality into the myth of separation. The butterflies represent the emergence of life, a new life, as a butterfly emerges from its cocoon. Here I have immortalized the Mausoleum Tree, as the ancient Egyptian Fayum mummy masks immortalize the dead...with the same materials, pigmented beeswax on wood. The Mausoleum Tree EXISTS!
