Encaustic comes from a Greek word which means
"burn in". This ancient medium and technique of melted beeswax mixed with pigment was notably used in ancient Egypt to create Fayum mummy masks, portraits - dating past 800 BC, as well as being used by the ancient Greeks to waterproof and decorate their warships. Also used in the Blachernitissa and other early icons, as well as in many works of 20th-century American artists , including Jasper Johns and Fernando Leal Audirac. Kut-kut, a lost art of the Philippines implements sgraffito and encaustic techniques. It was practiced by the indigenous tribe of Samar island around 1600 to 1800. -Wikipedia It takes as many as 10 Million flowers for bees to make
